So, I’ve fed the cats while apologizing for having bought a case of the lumpy food they hate instead of the pureed crap—a case because I never screw up in a small way. They look at me as though I’d spiked the food with serin gas elixir. I cleaned the litter box even though it didn’t need it and apologized to the fish for the algae thing. Not much algae, you understand, I’m not an animal. I clean it every day like I vacuum very day even if the carpet doesn’t need it, polish mirrors, pull cat hair off the lampshades, well—you know.

The sourdough bread was rising. I’d made my list with things like feed the cats, feed the fish, clean litter, scrape algae just so I have things to check off the damned list. I ritually scrolled down the program guide courtesy of my nemesis, Spectrum, searching for any movie to watch that was not “The Hunt For Red October”,  “The Silence of the Lambs” or anything produced by Tyler Perry because I’d already seem them all three times because, let’s face it, they all run on some channel or another 24 hours a day, seven days a week these days. Or maybe I just notice because for months now I’ve been watching TV 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I settled on “Braveheart” because even though I’d seen that three times, I like the music.

Then, the phone rang. Kind of exciting in this day and age, but I figured it had to be one of my two friends who call every day to make sure we’re both still alive and not being consumed by the cats. But…

It was Theresa from Malachy’s. She shared that indoor dining was just approved to start on September 30th and asked poor, sad, old, out of shape me if I wanted to go back to work!

Wow.  25% of restaurant capacity and no bar seating but serving actual human people. And maybe making some actual money. And, be still my heart, eating an actual good hamburger that I didn’t have to cook for myself!

So, prepare yourselves. Mother Malachy and the whole crew are getting back in the saddle again. We probably still know what we’re doing, but if we don’t, only 25% of you will know. Personally, I am very, very excited.

We are now open!!!  Indoors and Outside !!! 103  W. 72nd Street, NYC!
